BY JUDE OPARA,
Abuja The senior women national team, the Super Falcons may no longer be the first team to adorn the new national kits from new sponsors, Nike when they take on their Malian counterparts in the 2016 Olympic Games qualifier slated for this weekend in Abuja - Sports Vanguard investigations at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), revealed that the girls will have to appear in the kits supplied by former sponsors, Adidas.
A reliable source at the...
federation disclosed that all efforts made by the NFF to get the American company to ship the kits ahead of the encounter failed.
He also stated that there is no way the new kits manufacturing company can frown because they have not delivered on their own agreement, even as he added that the federation will not be pressing for any charges.
“We have a crucial match this weekend but our new sponsors are yet to provide us with the kits. They have no reason to frown because they are yet to fulfill their own side of the bargain. If I buy a car from somebody and he is yet to deliver it to me, I think I should be able to use another means to go to any place I want to go.”
Due to the non arrival of the kits, it was also gathered that the NFF who had started giving out the old kits halted the move until the arrival of the Nike kits.
Our source however revealed that the Adidas deal remains the best for the country even as he insisted that the poor attitude of the players that led to the cancellation of that deal must be avoided in the operation of the new Nike deal.
“It is unfortunate that we lost that deal due to the attitude of some people who believe they were powerful. That was the best deal this federation has ever signed but for this new Nike contract, there is no player or official that can rubbish us again. Any erring attitude must be sanctioned” our source added.
