Mystery early human revealed by DNA data

The genome sequence came from a toe bone found in Denisova Cave, Siberia

DNA analysis of early human remains from a Siberian cave has revealed the existence of a mystery human species.

A team of researchers speculates that this could have been Homo erectus, which lived in Europe and Asia a million years ago or more.
Meanwhile, the researchers report that they have also obtained the most complete DNA sequence ever from a Neanderthal.
Details of the work appear in Nature journal.
Finds at Denisova cave in Siberia have deepened our understanding of the human groups living in Eurasia before modern humans (Homo sapiens) arrived on the scene.

Such a pretty young promising lady, what a show of shame. A couple of weeks ago, an unbelievable drama played itself out at the Arrival Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja. At the centre of the drama was Maryam Temitope Kazeem, a young businesswoman. Maryam had just disembarked an Emirate Airline flight from Dubai, before she could take any step, she was approached by a team of Immigration officers, who requested that she step aside and come with them. In shock, Maryam followed the men into one of the offices and a search was carried out on her. The search yielded a good result as the sum of $60,000USD was found on her. The money belonged to Alhaji Adam, a popular businessman based in Dubai.

Adam owns Hadkar World Cargo, a well known cargo firm with branches in Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, UAE. According to sources, Adam and Maryam are chummy friends. It was on the basis of the closeness between them that had prompted Adam to ask Mariam to help him bring some money from Lagos to Dubai. Maryam agreed and went to the agent's office in Lagos to collect the money. The amount, which was $275,000USD was neatly packaged and given to Maryam. see photo below

Flags are to be flown at half-mast across Nigeria during the period and President Jonathan urged all Nigerians to unite in solidarity with the people of South Africa as they mourn the “great liberator, freedom fighter and hero of the black race.”
A statement issued by his media aide, Dr. Reuben Abati, said the President also called for special prayers in mosques and churches in Nigeria during the period of mourning which begins on Friday, for the peaceful repose of Dr. Mandela’s soul.
A special inter-denominational memorial service for the anti-apartheid icon will be held at the State House Chapel on Sunday.
Also, the African Union Commission on Friday declared three-day mourning with special funeral service in honour the Madiba.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the special service will take place on Sunday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The AUC’s Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Eratus Nwencha, made the announcement, when he addressed a press conference on Mandela’s demise on Friday in Addis Ababa.
The AUC deputy chairperson said the commission would hold the service in collaboration with the Ethiopian government and the South African Embassy in Ethiopia in honour of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

And not just that, she lumbered through dense forest on Thursday along the Assam-Nagaland border, where she was left abandoned by her armed kidnapper, and reached the house of a tea garden worker who called the police. Her ordeal lasted around 14 hours.
"The kidnapper picked up a small girl in the school van who started crying. I volunteered to be kidnapped instead. He clutched my hand and ran with me towards the forests," Gunjan told reporters at her home in Simaluguri.
"We crossed a river and walked through the forest for some time and stopped at one place. It was pitch dark and I couldn't see a thing.
I didn't eat anything all night. In the morning, I couldn't see him and escaped to reach a village. The villagers called up police and I was brought home," she added.
Sivasagar DSP Bijay Kuligam told TOI, "When I spoke to her this morning, she was very calm. She even referred to her kidnapper as 'uncle'." But for Gunjan's father, Shankar, a small-time trader, it was a torrid time.
"I was despairing when she was kidnapped. I even thought I'd never send her to school again. She is safer at home," he said.
